Project Description

This project involved the renovation of the existing Horan Building to establish a Student Wellbeing Centre and includes Counsellors’ offices, House Deans offices, responsible thinking classrooms, and an adjoining outdoor wellness garden. By centralising student wellbeing support services in the one precinct alongside the Open Learning Centre, the College will be able to provide a more integrated educational experience for students, staff and families. Alignment of service in the Wellbeing Centre and the Open Learning Centre will help to overcome stigmas associated with boys’ education and their susceptibility to downplay learning support needs and propensity to disengage. The College also aims to create a precinct that promotes the inter-relationship between wellbeing and learning so as to demystify youth mental health issues in boys learning and celebrate the achievements of boys in their learning journey.

Australian Student Wellness Framework – pg 4

“The wellbeing of children and young people is enhanced and their learning outcomes optimised when they feel connected to others and experience safe and trusting relationships. Students who feel connected, safe and secure are more likely to be active participants in their learning and to achieve better physical, emotional, social and educational outcomes. Educators who feel valued and supported are more likely to engage positively with students and build stronger connections within the school community. Enhancing the wellbeing of students and their educators delivers overall long-term social, health and economic benefits to the Australian community.
